Virtual Learning Facilitation Tips & Strategies

 

Background: Abriendo Puertas/Opening Doors is the first evidence-based program developed by and for Latino parents with children ages 0-5 – and adopted by diverse communities across the country. The program helps build parent leadership skills and knowledge to promote family wellbeing and positive outcomes for children by honoring family experiences, history and knowledge and supporting parents as powerful agents of change in the lives of their children and communities.

Description: Using principles of popular education as well as adult learning facilitation skills, participants in this course will expand their virtual learning skills. Virtual learning possesses new challenges as well as opportunities that impact the learning process in children and adults. The intent of the course is to further affirm the participant’s confidence, expertise, and knowledge base with an expanded set of abilities and attitudes to improve their virtual facilitation skills.

Learning Objectives: 

  • Affirm the principles and goals embodied in AP/OD in honoring the language and culture of families and their children
  • Apply popular education adult learning methodology for virtual presentations
  • Build and enhance the confidence and expertise of participants in creating effective virtual presentations

Course format: This module includes an interactive video presentation, a live Zoom meeting hosted by Luis Hernandez, an Abriendo Puertas/Opening Doors national trainer. During the live Zoom meeting, participants will have an opportunity to ask questions and receive technical support from the national trainer and the AP/OD team. 

Participants: All professionals who work with families with children 0-5—including certified facilitators, early childhood educators, family educators, home visitors, child care providers, and more—can benefit from taking this course.
