Creating new beginnings through family and community

In this facilitator spotlight, we highlight the journey of Vianka Villagomez, an AP-OD facilitator at Homeboy Industries in Los Angeles. Vianka first joined AP-OD as a parent seeking to build a stronger educational foundation for her four children. What she discovered was more than parenting support, it was a deeper understanding of the power parents have to shape their children’s futures. Through AP-OD, she gained research-based tools, practical strategies, and confidence in her role as her children’s first and most important teacher.

Today, Vianka facilitates the AP-OD curriculum at Homeboy Industries, where she supports other parents on their own journeys. She creates a welcoming space for learning, reflection, and connection, helping families turn knowledge into action. Her story reflects the heart of AP-OD. When parents are empowered, they not only transform their own families, they also help open doors for others.

Creando nuevos comienzos a través de la familia y la comunidad

En este destacado de facilitador, compartimos la trayectoria de Vianka Villagomez, facilitadora de AP-OD en Homeboy Industries en Los Ángeles. Vianka se unió inicialmente a AP-OD como madre en busca de fortalecer la base educativa de sus cuatro hijos. Lo que descubrió fue mucho más que apoyo en la crianza: entendió con mayor claridad el impacto que tienen los padres en el futuro de sus hijos. A través de AP-OD, adquirió estrategias prácticas y confianza en su papel como la primera y más importante maestra de sus hijos.

Hoy, Vianka facilita el currículo de AP-OD en Homeboy Industries, donde acompaña a otros padres en sus propios procesos. Crea un espacio acogedor de aprendizaje, reflexión y conexión, ayudando a las familias a convertir el conocimiento en acción. Su historia refleja el corazón de AP-OD: cuando los padres se empoderan, no solo transforman a sus propias familias, también ayudan a abrir puertas para otras.

Inspired by the program’s family-centered approach, she became a certified facilitator in 2024 and now champions parents as their children’s first teachers. By prioritizing listening and connection, she has created meaningful impact in her community—from supporting parents as they grow into leadership roles to launching Cafecito y Corazón, an ongoing space for families to gather and support one another.

Through her work, Xochitl continues to uplift parents’ voices, honor their wisdom, and strengthen community.

En este destacado de facilitadora, compartimos la historia de Xochitl Becerra, quien ha sido parte de AP-OD por más de una década.

Descubre cómo Xochitl pasó de observar las sesiones en silencio a liderarlas con confianza y dedicación. Inspirada por el enfoque centrado en la familia del programa, se convirtió en facilitadora certificada en 2024 y ahora apoya a los padres como los primeros maestros de sus hijos.
